Understand the patterns.

Change what happens next.

Sometimes knowing what you do isn’t the hard part. You already know you overthink conversations, avoid conflict until you’re furious, choose suspiciously familiar relationship dynamics, or understand exactly why you react a certain way and then proceed to react that way anyway. Insight is useful, but unfortunately the human brain does not come with a button labeled “I have identified the pattern, please uninstall.”

My approach is grounded largely in psychodynamic therapy, which means we’ll pay attention to the patterns underneath what’s happening now: how earlier experiences shaped the ways you learned to relate to other people, protect yourself, manage difficult emotions, and make sense of yourself. We’ll get curious about what keeps repeating and, importantly, what purpose those patterns may once have served. I also draw from attachment theory, mindfulness, cognitive and behavioral approaches, and other evidence-based practices when they’re useful. I’m less interested in forcing you into one therapeutic model than in understanding what’s actually happening and finding a way of working that helps you create meaningful, lasting change.
